Firearms Engraving

There are a number of considerations in engraving firearms that need to be addressed before beginning:

• Do you have an idea how you would like the firearm to look? What theme or type of scroll work would you like to use? How much coverage? Do you want gold inlays or lining? Do you want the background relieved?
• Can the firearm be engraved? Modern steels and hardening techniques render some firearms nearly impossible to engrave by hand.
• Once a firearm has been decided upon it has to be disassembled and the finish removed prior to engraving. The surface of the metal is then prepared (polished/stoned) for the engraving by removing any nicks or dings. After the engraving is completed the firearm has to be refinished and re-assembled

Lettering and Jewelry Engraving 

Lettering is the process of engraving text onto an object. When thinking about placing text on an object it is important to consider some factors:

• Is space available for engraving?
• Is there a specific font that is preferred?
• Is the object made of a metal that is too tough to engrave upon? (Note: This is a general rule of engraving and applies to almost any object that is not made of a precious metal)

Jewelry engraving involves almost any object that can be worn as decoration. When engraving jewelry, the most common types of decoration include borders, rosettes, and scrollwork.  Most precious metals such as gold, silver, and platinum engrave very well.

Pricing on jewelry engraving is an ambiguous factor and cannot be determined unless the object is present, however there is a minimum price of $25 for any work performed.
